Great Quotes

Quotes I love…

By God: I love these quotes because they speak to just how crazy powerful God is and because there is a little sarcasm (that is very reminiscent of my own reactions )in there that speaks to our being made in his image.

“Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.” Job 38:2-3

“ Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!” Job 38:4-5

“Do you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you ,’Here we are’?” Job 38:35

“Does the eagle soar at your command and build its nest on high?” Job 39:27

By Jesus: I love these because Jesus was so direct and I identify with that. I love his direct honesty and willingness to challenge others. He pulled no punches when addressing the Pharisees and was utterly clear about his distaste for what they stood for and did.I think he especially took issue because he knew how badly their actions impacted the ability of others to come to know God. He hated hypocrites as they taint what true Christianity is and are a false representation. This is still true today with Christians that are hypocritical.

“You are in error because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God” Matthew 22:29

“Woe to you , teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way , on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.” Matthew 23:27-28.

By Elijah the Prophet: This quote make me and my family laugh. Its so funny to me how Elijah is mocking their trust in a false God when THE God is so real and powerful. His actions are so real. I love it!!

“At noon Elijah began to taunt them. “Shout louder!” he said. “Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened.1 Kings 18:27

By Unknown Author: This is just a great simple reminder as to what we can find in scripture.

B.I.B.L.E – Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth(“Bible’ doesn’t actually stand for this but it’s a good reminder of what the Bible is about).

By C.S.Lewis: I like C.S.Lewis because he is Christian that very much came to God after trying hard to ignore promptings, until he finally could not run any longer. So, he gets it. He is very real about what Christians struggle with.

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”

“Friendship … is born at the moment when one man says to another “What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .”

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”

“Eating and reading are two pleasures that combine admirably.”

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”

“We are not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be.”
